Exploration 3: Evan Collins

My active reading is going okay. It could be better though. I'm not entirely used to writing in a book as I read it yet. I actually noted the whole page of page 60 because that situation stood out to me a lot and I could visualize it very well.
I found "Enemies" the most interesting so far because it once again emphasizes how the war makes you crazy in a way. "Late that same night he borrowed a pistol, gripped it by the barrel, and used it like a hammer to break his own nose". I can't imagine watching someone do this or me doing this to myself but I also don't know what it's like to be in war. I can't say I would never do this because I don't know that extreme feeling of guilt. I have definitely felt guilty before but never enough to want to break my own nose.
In the entirety of this book, I like lieutenant Cross's stories because I have had a relate-able  situation with him and Martha. Cross has this motivation and optimistic look towards this girl who doesn't see the situation the same as he does and he can't seem to let it go. I understand the not being able to let go part whereas I think most people would just say "move on", and it's obviously not as easy and as simple as that.
